Help Us Fight Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer strikes one in six American men. Every man is at risk. There are only two ways to fight it. The first line of attack against this disease is in reducing risk. All men 45 or older should have a PSA screening at least once a year. The second line of attack is to help us find a cure for prostate cancer. We want to knock out prostate cancer for good and keep it down for the count. Join us in the ring and help us fight the fight by writing a check and funding the cure.

The One-in-Six Foundation is fighting a very difficult battle in its pursuit of a cure for prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is perceived by the general public as a non-threatening disease that is easily cured. It is the Dr. Jekyl/Mr. Hyde of the cancer world. Many people feel it is as easy to survive as the common cold, and this is NOT the case. Yes, prostate cancer is easily cured if it is found in its early stages, while it is still Dr. Jekyl.

But once prostate cancer has extended beyond the prostate, the battle changes entirely. This is when prostate cancer alters its character and turns into the fearsome Mr. Hyde - cunning in how it hides and moves, difficult to deal with, and, finally, it is deadly. Prostate cancer IS life-threatening and it is an awesome opponent, one that is highly underestimated. Ultimately, the worst news is that there is not yet a cure for advanced prostate cancer.

Most people do not know that surgery cannot cure prostate cancer once the cancer has metastsized or moved beyond the prostate gland. There are very few treatments available for advanced prostate cancer, and, due to the lack of public awareness about the disease, it is very difficult to get the attention and funding necessary to fight advanced prostate cancer.

Help us fight this battle and arm doctors with medicines and treatments that can knock prostate cancer down for the count. Scientists, such as Dr. Samuel Denmeade at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, are researching medications which seek out and destroy the metastisized cancer cells while avoiding or minimizing damage to the rest of the body. The greater the funding, the faster the research will lead to a cure.
